Marco Antonio Petit began investigating the UFO phenomenon in 1975. He has been involved—both as an investigator and in disseminating information—in the most significant cases within Brazilian military ufology, including the “Official Night of the UFOs”, Operação Prato (“Operation Saucer”), and the Varginha incident, among others. He conducted what are now considered historic interviews with high-ranking military officials, including the commander of Operação Prato and the former Minister of Aeronautics, Brigadier Otávio Júlio Moreira Lima.
He was responsible for the longest and most documented study, or investigation of an area of incidence ever carried out in Brazil. This work took place in the Serra da Beleza region (Rio de Janeiro state) between 1982 and 2006; during this period, he documented over 400 accounts from local residents and had numerous direct encounters with UFOs, which allowed him to capture photographic evidence of these objects on several occasions.
He served as co-editor of the magazine Fenômeno UFO and was one of the creators of the campaign UFOs – Liberdade de Informação, Já (“UFOs: Freedom of Information Now”). This initiative led to the declassification of thousands of pages of official documents regarding the presence of UFOs in Brazilian airspace, records that had previously been kept under strict secrecy by the Brazilian Air Force. He is a founding member of the Comissão Brasileira de Ufólogos (Brazilian Commission of Ufologists) and currently serves as its president, continuing to lead this campaign.
At the invitation of the Brazilian Air Force, he was received at CINDACTA, the Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command (COMDABRA), and the Ministry of Defense, along with other leaders of the movement. This event is unprecedented in the history of global ufology, as it involved discussions on ending military secrecy regarding the reality of the UFO phenomenon.
An accomplished author, he has written 16 books covering various aspects of both Brazilian and global ufology. He is currently developing the “Mars Revealed Project”, an initiative he created himself to monitor and analyze, on a daily basis, photographs from NASA missions on the Red Planet. These images are published in real time via the space agency’s catalogs and websites, and the project includes a search for biological signatures of ancient life on the Martian surface.
On September 16, 2025, he served as a speaker at a public hearing on UFOs held at the Chamber of Deputies in Brasília (DF), where he denounced the “UFO cover-up” occurring within the country’s military sector.
